Looking for road trip hacks? It hasn’t exactly been a typical summer. Many of us had plans to travel, but with COVID in the mix…
STAYCATIONS ARE THE NEW GETAWAY
…we’ve had to get creative with our time. In lieu of hopping on a plane and jetting off to a different timezone, many families are opting for day-trips, cottaging and backyard BBQs in order to maintain social distancing. While it’s disappointing that there are strict travel restrictions in place, it’s important we all do our part to keep each other safe – Plus, there’s something beautiful about getting back to basics with getaways and quality time with our loved ones!
ROAD TRIP WELLNESS TIPS
If you’re planning on taking a road trip anytime soon, we got you! With air travel pretty much halted, and mandatory quarantine upon arrival, “closer to home” holidays becoming more popular lately, we thought we’d share our fave hacks for road tripping:
ROAD TRIP HACK #1:
PACK A TMB CORK BALL
This one is a must have and will become your new best friend! Small enough to carry around in your purse, but effective enough to release tight hips/glutes, lower back, feet, and those pesky traps! Dr. Bhat keeps a TMB Cork Ball in her glove box in her car for her drives to the cottage.
ROAD TRIP HACK #2:
USE A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE
If you haven’t already ditched plastic water bottles, you should! Plastic is endocrine disrupting – Pair that with the hot sun in the backseat of the car and you’ve got yourself an estrogenic, pro-inflammatory mess! When left out in the heat, the chemicals in plastic leach into the water you drink – Yuck!
TMB BONUS TIP
If out in cottage country, try to find a natural spring to fill your water bottle/take a jug. Natural spring water is amazing for our health!
ROAD TRIP HACK #3:
TAKE STRETCH BREAKS ALONG THE WAY
Sitting for prolonged periods of time can make your joints stiff, your fascia tight and your body generally achy. If you have a long drive ahead, we recommend planning stops along the way, getting out of the car, walking around and stretching your body. Keep reading below for a simple stretch you can do on your next road trip!
ROAD TRIP HACK #4:
FIND A FARMER’S MARKET
Heading for a drive into the country? Try this country road trip hack. Try to scope out a farmer’s market to load up on fresh, local produce! Not only does shopping local and seasonal benefit the environment, but the food is also loaded with potent nutrients and is full of fresh flavour!
ROAD TRIP HACK #5:
PACK HEALTHY SNACKS
Many people rely on fast food joints during long drives. This time around, why don’t you skip the drive through and pack your own healthy snacks! Some of our favourites are our go-to chocolate mint and coconut fibre bars – If you’re feeling a little fancy, you can even make your own “ready to go” chia pudding or smoothies beforehand!

Sitting in the car can take a toll on our body, especially if you’ve already spent the day sitting at a computer desk without a lot of movement. After a few hours (or less) of driving, you might start to feel tight and achy in your lower back area. Come see TMB for a FIIX treatment!
