We all know that working out is vital to our health. We absolutely know this. But learning to love exercise is an entirely different matter.
Luckily, TMB’s founder, Dr.Bhat, is here today with her personal tips for inspiring a genuine love of working out.
One of the questions I ask every one of my patients is, “What do you do for movement or exercise?” Yes, I often refer to exercise as ‘movement’ because at the end of the day moving your body is what matters the most.
WHY PEOPLE DON’T LOVE TO EXERCISE
Many patients can answer this question easily. But often times people don’t know how to love exercise. As a result, those who don’t love exercise usually have one of the following reasons — “I never learned how to love exercise because…”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
REASON 1
I don’t have time.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
REASON 2
It’s so cold in the winter and hard to get outdoors. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
REASON 3⠀⠀⠀⠀
I don’t know what to do and I’m afraid I’ll injure myself.⠀
REASON 4⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I just hate ___________ (insert style of movement here: cardio, the gym, boot camp, yoga, Pilates, dance etc!)⠀⠀⠀

DR. BHAT’S ADVICE FOR HOW TO LOVE EXERCISE
My response to all of these thoughts? My personal advice for how to learn to love exercise, which are:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Having to workout for an hour or it’s not worth it is a total MYTH!⠀⠀
⠀
2. It’s cold, but getting out in the fresh air is essential so try embracing it! (I.e skiing/skating even just walking bundled up!) ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Ask a trusted practitioner for their advice on what you should start with/if they know a person/class/exercise you should try. ⠀
4. If you hate all the stuff you’ve tried, you likely just haven’t found the thing you LOVE! Keep trying, even if you hated one yoga class, doesn’t mean you’ll hate another. It’s teacher dependent, studio dependent and style dependent, so don’t give up!⠀
